Dental Bonding in Hamilton

If you break or chip a tooth, or have gaps between teeth, sometimes your dentist may suggest bonding as the simplest and most cost-effective treatment solution. It is a relatively low-cost, and painless, treatment procedure that will esthetically and comfortably solve the problem. If you need any dental bonding, Hamilton’s Go Dental Clinic can provide you with all the information you might need.

What is Dental Bonding?

Bonding is when a dentist applies, or glues, a tooth-coloured composite resin to your tooth. This can be to repair a chipped, broken, or fractured tooth; or to close unwanted gaps between teeth. When a crown is not recommended or possible, or for smaller repairs, it is a less expensive and less disruptive, but still esthetic solution.

How Does Dental Bonding Work?

You do not need to do any special preparation for this procedure, and are unlikely to require any anaesthetic. The process usually takes between 30 minutes to an hour to complete.

Dr. Hanna first uses a shade guide to match the colour of resin used to your own teeth. This will make the repair unobtrusive and natural looking. Depending on the type of repair, Dr. Hanna may roughen the surface of the tooth, and will then apply a conditioning liquid. These steps help the resin bond to the tooth. Then Dr. Hanna will apply the resin to your tooth and shape it before hardening the resin with an ultraviolet light.

After the resin is hardened, Dr. Hanna will continue to shape and smooth it until it is the right shape and looks like the original tooth. Finally, they will check that the new tooth does not interfere with your bite in order to make sure that you will be able to chew and bite comfortably.

Dental Bonding Aftercare

The new tooth may feel strange in your mouth, but you will soon get used to it. You should also avoid eating very chewy food such as toffees to minimise the risk of damaging the bonded resin.

If you need dental bonding, Hamilton’s Go Dental Clinic can arrange for you to receive the treatment you need as soon as possible. Don’t hesitate to give us a call.
