COVID-19 Update (June 8, 2020)

To our valued patients,

We hope that this email finds you and your family in good health. The impact of COVID-19 over the last few months has been felt by all of us and leaves us all looking forward to recovery. While many things have changed, one thing has remained the same: our commitment to your safety and your dental health.

Infection control has always been a top priority for our practice, as well as our entire profession. Our infection control processes ensure that all of our patients are safe and comfortable, and follow the recommendations made by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, the Ministry of Labour, and Ontario Public Health Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC).

We are presently implementing new protocols and standards of care to protect our patients and staff during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Team Health: All staff members will have their temperatures checked daily and must complete a daily screening form.

PPE: Clinical team members involved in patient care will be wearing appropriate PPE in accordance with the guidelines and recommendations set by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario and Ontario Public Health.

Sterilization: All instruments and treatment areas will be sterilized or disinfected in between each and every patient using hospital-grade sterilization equipment and disinfecting agents, as we have always done.

Office Disinfection: In addition, non-treatment areas will be frequently sanitized throughout the day, including but not limited to door knobs, faucets and countertops.

Plexiglass Barriers and Physical Distancing Measures: We have installed a plexiglass barrier at our front desk and have implemented physical distancing measures throughout the office.

Clinical Updates: We have completed our transition to paperless records and will no longer regularly pull paper charts. We will continue to implement appropriate changes as guidelines are updated or modified.

Although it will be a little different than previous visits at your next visit, we ask that you help us stay safe by following these guidelines.

All patients will be screened for COVID-19 when their appointment is being scheduled as well as confirmed the day before. If you are not feeling well, please do not come into the office.

If any patient or anyone in their household has experienced any symptoms assoicated with COVID-19 (fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, headaches, sore throat, the recent loss of taste or smell), or if any patient has been exposed to anyone suspected of or known to have been infected with COVID-19 within the 14 days leading up to their appointment, please contact us as soon as possible to reschedule your appointment.

If you are over the age or 70 or have pre-existing health conditions; such as diabetes, chronic lung disease or asthma, serious heart conditions, are immunocompromised, or chronic kidney or liver disease, we advise you to let the office know as we will handle this on a case-by-case basis.

Confirmation of appointments: Given our closure for the past several months and the resulting backlog of treatment, we NEED confirmation of your appointment. If we do not hear from you within 24 hours prior to the start of your appointment, your appointment may be given to another patient. Also, if you need to reschedule, we request 2 business days notice to accommodate the many patients that have been canceled and/or rescheduled due to the office closure.

Check-in by phone from your vehicle or from outside the office and wait. Please check-in for your appointment by phone from your vehicle or from outside the office (you can call us or text us) when you arrive and then wait inside your vehicle or outside of the office (away from the front door). We will call/text you back when we are ready for you to come in. If you do not have a cell phone or require assistance, a different protocol will be made for you when you make your appointment.

Only patients are permitted to come into the office for appointments. We ask that only scheduled patients come inside the office at the time of their appointment unless they require assistance.

Upon entering the office all patients MUST wear a mask or face covering. Please bring your own if possible. If you do not have your own, you will be given one upon entry. This mask or face covering will only be removed for completing dental treatment and replaced right after.

Use hand sanitizer or wash your hands thoroughly upon entering the office. Please use the hand sanitizer provided at the front desk as soon as you enter the office or if you prefer, please wash your hands thoroughly in our washroom as soon as you enter the office.

Temperature check. We will check your temperature (and anyone accompanying you when applicable) with a contactless thermometer before escorting you to the treatment area. Anyone with a reading of 38 degrees celcius or above will be asked to reschedule their appointment.

We are here to take care of your oral health as always and we ask for your patience and cooperation to do it safely during the Pandemic. We will get through this together. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

IN THE HEART OF CORKTOWN

Committed to the local Art scene and the history of the neighborhood, we commissioned the
Mural adorning our building by Hamilton artist Lester Coloma and local at-risk youth. Featured in the
Hamilton Spectator. As a family dental office, we strive to honour the history and residents of Hamilton.

One of the original four Hamilton neighbourhoods, Corktown is home to the Hamilton GO Station, St.
Joseph’s Hospital, and the pub district of Augusta and Young Streets. High rises of the neighbourhood are
responsible for much of Hamilton’s skyline, but among them are also Victorian era residences that help
Corktown retain its old world nuances, serving as a reminder of Hamilton’s early Irish settlers that lived
here and worked on the Toronto, Hamilton & Buffalo Railway. When you visit our dental office, you can
recognize us by the iconic mural recognizing thos early Hamilton early settlers.
